The Rev. Larry Whitehead will be preaching on Sunday, May
11, 2008. The sermon is entitled “Not Likely!” The
scripture is from the book of Acts 2:1-21.
This Sunday, as we celebrate
Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate what some call the birthday
of the church. It is the day we remember that God has placed
a fire in our hearts and we celebrate the presence of the
gift of the Holy Spirit among us. Red is the color of the
day in some Christian traditions, it is the only day of the
year that the red vestments and banners are used.
Just 50 days after the Resurrection
of Christ, God’s Holy Spirit poured over a group of
frightened and confused disciples and transformed them into
people filled with God’s presence and with a passion to
spread the Good News of a risen Savior. That Spirit blew
upon them and placed a fire in their hearts that warms us
still. SO JOIN US SUNDAY TO CELEBRATE…AND WEAR SOMETHING
RED!
